Bush wedding magic at Singita Sabi Sands.

Ben Howard – Depth Over Distance

Ohhhhhh, but where do I begin with this wedding? There are hardly words. Let me try my best.

Set in the magical Sabi Sands, Singita Ebony Lodge is where guests were welcomed for Skyler and Taine’s wedding weekend. Every, single interaction with any human at that beautiful lodge, is one filled with kindness, friendliness, warmth and inclusivity – the staff were some of the best people I’ve met.

The wedding weekend was kicked off with a game drive which ended with sundowners at sunset – see if you can spot a pair of rhinos who were watching us, in the distance. The wedding day festivities begun with a sunrise game drive, followed by a scrumptious breakfast, over looking the river. The groomsmen got ready and merry in a beautiful room at the Boulders Lodge while the bride and her girls got pretty in an equally beautiful room at the Ebony Lodge. Their wedding ceremony was set in an open clearing in the heart of the bush, where elephants usually traverse (and I’m sure, where many animals observed us from afar). We took the couples’ session to an open pan where the sun, set and the moon, rose.

The magic, the absolute. goosebump-inducing magic of seeing the animals. The magnificence and grandeur of a leopard – seeing Thamba, a majestic, male leopard, walk up to us and “saw” with a baritone pitch, barely two metres away, was a sight and sound I will remember for ever. The knowledge, wisdom and experience of the guides and trackers, and their willingness and keenness to share – I’m in admiration of their selfless dedication to serving to. protect and conserve nature. The sunrises and sunsets. The sounds! Oh, the sounds – the alarm calling of the brave impala, horns connecting in a clash between buffalo bulls, the lions’ moans and groans, the crunch of the game-drive vehicle on the sand, the crackle of a bonfire. The clear skies, the spellbinding stars. Sipping on coffee in the crisp, morning air. The friendliness and selflessness of the lodge staff who’s only aim. is to please. I could go on, and on, and on.

Every wedding has my heart, in its own unique way. This one has my heart in such a way that the only way to regain some of my heart back, is to revisit the beautiful bush, again and again and again.

Enjoy the magical wedding day of Skyler and Taine!
